Homeward Bound

I guess this week is the week of songs because I woke up with Homeward Bound by Simon and Grafunkle.  Released in 1966, I doubt the artists had their eternal home in mind when it was penned; never-the-less that is where my heart goes, "Home, where my thoughts escape.  Home, where the music's playing.  Home, where my love lies waiting silently for me, silently for me."  Our heart longs to be home, it scavengers during the day to find its resting place, to find its peace and when night falls and all is silent, we embrace the silence with love for faith has become our guide.  Our hectic days are spent checking off a to do lists, ensuring that each deadline is met in a timely manner and that our adult responsibilities are fulfilled.  At times, it seems that almost from the moment our feet hit the floor in the morning, we are off and the race does not end until we climb back in bed for the night, even then, at times, the mind will, not stop racing prolonging the search for home.  Our desire for home need not be sought only in the silent moments of our sleep.  Home need not be a constant search, a longing to be somewhere we are not for our home is with God, a God who is present in all aspects of creation, present within our very being thus we need only be to find ourselves home.  When we were young we crawled into the arms of our mother when we were tired, when we were lost, afraid, or ill because we know our mother would hold us and comfort us as only a mother can.  As adults, we miss the warm embrace of our mother; we long for the protection she offered, for the love which radiated from each hug.  I like to think of each protective hug as a moment God becomes tangible.  With arms wrapped around the body and two hearts beating as one, this stolen moment becomes takes us home where we are transformed by love, protected by the Father and shown the truth of our being.  Allow the body to sink into the spirit and the breathing will slow, the mind silenced and the heart will speak ever so loudly:
"I have brought you home, here with Me, you are safe.  Fear not the anxieties of the day, they seek only to destroy your spirit.  Fear not the list running through your head, if today it is not complete, tomorrow will come soon enough.  Be in this moment, this is what you long for, this is what you pray about...this very moment.   Let your person be saturated in love, feel my presence.  Your heart beats in time with mine, rest.  Yes, the clock ticks, worry not how it races past each number.  You are home.  Home, where your thoughts escape to...this is it be here, be with me.  Your home is not a place, no walls will you find, it is bound not by geographical location; your home is found in every aspect of this world for you home is captured by the music of your heart, this is where I wait, sometimes silently, sometimes I call your name.  Listen and you will know this is what you seek for you will feel the power of this home, the power of love, the power of my love which heals as it envelopes you.  Home, this is your home, your faith has brought you home."  What a powerful statement the heart makes...home, our searched ceased by love...home.  Take a moment, not to fall into the complexities of this world but the simplicities of life enveloped by God that we may know protection, that we may know love for we are bound by the securities of a home no person can take from us though another can help us to embrace.  Take a moment to offer a hug and receive the love from a home gifted by God through the embrace of another.  Be in the moment and home will be discovered.  Life can be transformed by a simple release of worldly anxieties and a simple embrace of a Godly moment.  Home, where thoughts may escape but realize the body, too can escape, it can be wrapped in the moment, wrapped in a home genuinely offered in love.  Home, the music is always playing for the heart is always speaking, gently calling us to itself, calling us to reap the benefits of unconditional love, calling us to live our faith that we may walk each moment encased in a home erected in love.  Home, where God waits, watching, loving, guiding and protecting that we may become cognizant of our home in this world, that we may not compare the walls of house which protects us from the elements to the home which sustains life itself.  Stop for a moment and be home.  If a hug cannot be offered, fold hands together that fingertips may meet and the pulse captured, this the centering that will bring you home.  At any moment we can become homeward bound, we just need to stop and be in the moment, be in the moment of home and life will forever be altered.  Life no longer a race to check off the to do list, life now an accumulation of moments wrapped in love.  Homeward bound, no longer a wish; rather, a reality...the moment is here, home discovered in a warm embrace.  Be transformed in love and help others to do the same...have you hugged someone today?
