I can’t help but meditate on the climate of change we have undergone as a human race. I believe there was a time in which life was enjoyed, the pace slower, rushing from point A to point B was unheard of; yet now, we bypass point B all together and make a mad dash to point Z. There is a great quote from the movie Cars, "Well, the road didn't cut through the land like that interstate. It moved with the land, it rose, it fell, it curved. Cars didn't drive on it to make great time. They drove on it to have a great time." How quickly life has changed, now, when we pass the stranger on the street, we look to the ground making sure our eyes don’t meet. Streets which once echoes with laughter and conversation now chillingly cold and met with resistance. Why? Are we not all children of God? Does He not love all of His children? Should we not act upon HIs love? A simple change in mindset and the world of living can resurface. We have gotten away from the core values of the Gospel and life has changed its course, unfortunately not for the better in many ways. The Golden Rule has been replaced with watch out for number one and love of thy neighbor means don't get caught defacing their property. God so loved the world that He gave us His only Son, what are we giving to God with our selfish attitudes and disconnections of the heart? We can only give that which we have, do we have love? Do we have enough love to change our own attitude, to slow down that we may see that points A, B, C, D, and E are meaningless if we have not love. We can look to photos and reminisce about the way life use to be or we can look to the crucifix and look at the way life is suppose to be; shared in love. If we liken each life event to a kaleidoscope, a little twist here, a turn there and a whole new perspective is painted before us. Clinging to faith, acting with hope, living in love, our attitude can be rerouted toward harmony. The question is, are we ready to change and live life rather than allowing life living us? No one can make this change for us, we have to turn that kaleidoscope ourselves, and when we do, beauty will be all we see for the love from within will be projected upon the now. Are we willing to turn the kaleidoscope, just a little or 180 degrees, but turn it and embrace the new masterpiece which is living. And maybe 60 years down the road, the photograph taken today will be the photograph people look to and reminisce about 'the good old days'.
