LENT

Letting go of that which we grip so tightly only to realize it is the reason for our distance…

Exercising the heart, the soul that it may enjoy the freedoms of love as promised by the Father…

Navigating through the quagmires of uncertainty and misgivings that we may silence the mind and hear the voice of the Father calling us by name…

Trusting that the Father is our every step, that His embrace directs our course; a course of love without resistance from our humanity…

LENT…

Lent is our opportunity to walk, to stumble, to be vulnerable in the Father’s love that we may become the person we truly are, the person the Father has called us to be, the person the Father already loves.  Let us use this Lenten season to let go of that which cripples our relationships; exercise the soul in prayer and grow closer to the Father; navigate the importance of faith and allow it to foster our steps; and trust the unconditional love of the Father for each one of us…His children.  May this Lent become our experience of the Father.

Silent Moment

In the silence of the moment I hear Your voice

Though I cannot decipher Your speech, the words I hear and know You are with me

Love echoes Your speech and I pause for in this moment love is what I know

Should I pause longer I would feel deeper, I would know much more

Alas my humanity calls me forth from my silence

Back into the chaos I return but not without insight, not without change

Absolute love in but a moment moves mountains

Though my moment severed by indignant thought my heart will return to the silence for my invitation has no bounds

My heart longs to hear Your voice and so I shall

The next pause may only be another moment but I know Your love, I long for Your love for it makes me whole

My goal…to elongate the silence

To be in the moment without fret of the chaos

is to have silenced the bedlam of my human existence for to live a life of pure love is to intimately know the Father

Prayer this means of intimacy

Silence its medium

In this silence, moments multiply

Words unscrambled, love abound

The discovery of a lifetime…life discovered

All because of a moment…

Absolute

Overdrive; dig in; hunker down. No, wait, now run, run faster but don’t look back, there is nothing to see.  Keep up the pace for if not the noise, the noise will make you mad. Sanity rests in certainties yet humanity relies upon negotiation.  With each certainty a refuted theory incites indignant conversation and impetuous action whereby fight or flight is imposed.  Where to go, what to do, what to think? The mind races as if it were in competition with the body; which can move faster, which can outrun the noise, which can decipher the certainties from the negotiations?  Indigence the the trophy for such competition and exhaustion its fallout.  Certainties exist only in theories and negotiations, without such certainties are but brittle words which break with the inconsistency.  So where do we go, what do we do?  If certainties are intrinsic to a vortex of inaccuracy, what do we actually know?  We know absolute…absolute love, absolute truth, absolute forgiveness, absolute strength for these absolutes dwell within the depths of our beings, they are the reverberation of our soul, God’s voice…a constant; a freedom. Though we often choose to exist at the surface of our humanity, we are much, much more for our bond, our connection with and to the Father is absolute. Love our purpose, love our mission, love often our entanglement for its meaning at the surface differs when it comes to the depth of our soul. No running, no digging in just stopping, just listening. Our invitation to pray with the Father is open ended. Now is our chance to discredit certainty with absolute…settle, see, hear…be enveloped by the absolute, enveloped by God.

Find Your Breath

Find your breath, find your hope, find your peace, deep within. Within the depths of your soul, the part of you which speaks, speaks every so softly yet ever so forcefully as if to say you are strong; fear not the longings of hope, of peace for they will follow even the darkest of journeys. In this breath discover a reality clouded by the consciousness, interrupted by the distractions of a fabricated enchantment from a disenchanted existence.  Discover a truth revealed in a suspended silence…a silence difficult to uncover for the noise of routine humanity grows exponentially as doubt, anxiety and uncertainty begin to grandstand hope, peace and unity.  Movements hindered by distrust, interrupted by misrepresentations of truth make for a slow and painfully journey. Fear not, for though the journey seems laborious, with each step breath is discovered; tiny as it may be. This breath is hope, this breath is peace, this breath is God, Himself, breathing for you when impossibility is your only thought.  There is an echo within the very depths of your soul; an echo of hope, an echo of peace, and echo of love. God speaks each and every day; unfortunately, our listening skills don’t parallel His daily speech, but the soul hears, the soul knows, the soul breathes. Find your breath, find your hope, find your peace…be still, listen, hear…words of love echoing within.

Today

Today, today, today

We have to find our way

The world is out today

Today, today, today

When will we look up

When will realize

That today is what we have

Today, today, today

God’s given us today

We must find a way

To make today our day

The world is upside down

People fight from town to town

The know not their heart

They act from the cuff

Ignoring all the signs

That today is the day

To open up to God

Today, today, today

The Lord is here to stay

Act we must in faith

For today we have a chance

To thank the Lord our God

For a day just like today

The sun it rises up

The world awakening

As life begins to stir

Today, this our day

Today, today, today

The Lord has much to say

So listen must we now

Today, today, today

The heart it speaks of love

It acts without regret

The world, it needs this love

Our actions lined in faith

Must now reflect our heart

For today it is the day

To turn the hate to love

The Father gave to us

This day, it is today

Today, today, today

We have to find our way

Our God is here today

And every day, today

Love we must become

For love is who the Father is

When life becomes such love

We can afford to live

For God reside in us

And we become His hands

Today is this day

The Lord has offered help

He gives to us His word

To be our guiding strength

Today, today, today

We must accept such truth

Today we settle down

The mind it must shut down

For today we find our way

Our God is here right now

Extending forth His love

Today, today, today

We will find our way

Our God He speaks today

And we will find our way

Today

Today

Today

Reclaim Christmas

‘Twas days before Christmas and all through the land people were worried, impatient and mad

The fighting began some time ago, tearing people apart creating friend and foe

The lights they do twinkle, the trees they go glisten, but people, oh people have forgotten how to listen

They speak first and ignore the response, for they have already decided to what they should hear

Run here, go there, respond to this text, when and why has Christmas become so vexed?

The anxiety, the fear then have taken away our Christmas cheer

We must return to the listening, of hearing that one voice, for it is the Father who calls us by choice

Each by their name, each with love and care and with each message, a gentle, “I am there.”

This is what we need, not presents, not twinkles, not even a tree

What we need is the Father to help us to be

People of love, people of hope, people who no longer forebode

Life is to short for the uneasy meetings, for ‘tis the season for cheerful greetings

The hope that was lost, this hope can be found if we but stop, listen and look around

Here we will find the answer to our confusion; this animosity, this hatred, comes all from illusions

That which we see, that which we hear as filtered by the mind takes not into consideration the heart which is so kind

The peace we know, the love that is so deep are virtues which we most certain can reap

But only when we listen, when we slow down, for it is then we hear the Father’s voice echo with every sound

Telling us of love without condition, filling us with joy that we become the very best rendition

Of love modeled by Christ, of who we are meant to be and yet we think not of love but rather fiddle with a tree

Return then we must to the knee that deep love fill us that we may begin to see

Christmas is much more than what we get for it is about the life of a Savior we mustn’t forget

Who brought us hope, who showed us love; this Christmas is truly a blessing from up above.

Let us be still, let us be silent, let us no longer be violent

Let Christmas turn our hearts, let us empty our carts

And fill this Christmas will love, with hope, with peace, with joy and return to the notion it is about a Boy

A Savior, a hope, a love, a model of who we can become at full throttle

Engines a reviving, the heart the fuel to even the hatred, the fighting and even the duel

Between a good people who have lost their way, between a good people who have forgotten the purpose of this day

A Christmas of love, this Christmas we hear for this Christmas it is clear

Christmas is magical when love finds a bond; when love knows no restriction, when of love we become fond

So hear in these last days, the voice of the Father breaking through the haze

Of that which we deem dire is nothing more than remains in a quagmire

For life when is purposed in God alone, our ears are opened, our eyes become wide for we become the love we are inside

Only a few days remain for us a Christmas to reclaim!

Where is Our Attention

We want to hear...

All is well, there is nothing to worry about.

Everything will work itself out.

You are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Whatever you want you can have.

This will all soon pass.

What we need to hear...

Place your trust in God and worry will plague you no longer.

Fate lies in the attention to determination and motivation.

Greatness germinates from the acceptance of love from within.

Wants come with a price tag of effort.

Prayer knows no time thus suspending its passage.

When wants cloud needs we see...

Fret combining with fear to create a vigilance of worry.

Chaos as everyday experiences.

Greatness become synonymous with power.

Entitlement the mantra of success.

Time measured in the collection of material goods.

When prayer is a priority, we know...

We are not alone in any struggle, celebration or moment.

Collaborative moments with the Father clarify our true reality.

Love is who we become and faith our of means of execution.

The world is ours to know, to love, to care for all because the Father loves us.

Time carries no clout; rather each moment spent in love brings with it understanding.

When love is the forefront of our conscious we...

Worry less; focusing our attention on our relationship with the Father.

Consciously commit to strengthening such a relationship.

Accepting the Father’s love that we may blossom as love.

Efforts purposed in self sacrifice.

Attention to the longevity of our reality in the Father.

Where will our attention grab focus...

Wants: independently planning a farce of a reality?

Needs: sacrificing the ego that the heart may connect?

Illusions: prioritizing the concepts of the human mind?

Prayer: placing trust in the Father?

Love: conditionless?

Which Path?

The winter weather leaves behind mounts of white, once fluffy, now somewhat frozen blankets with which we are forced to contend.  A once easy walk to the neighbor’s becomes the trek of the century; a five minute drive to the corner store turns into an hour slip and slide all for milk and eggs.  The inconvenience of the storm leaves us perplexed, aggravated and seriously contemplating the necessity of our next trip for forging a new path through the new fallen snow is exhausting.  The second trek is more frightening than the first because paths have been made leaving us with a choice, do we forge yet a new path and contend with the impending exhaustion or do we take the earlier path already somewhat cleared?  In choosing the latter, we discover that we rarely look up for with each step we fight for balance as this path, susceptible to the new weather patterns, has a layer of ice and requires much attention.  This path we follow, while less physically exhausting, exhausts us mentally for, once at the end of the path, we discover we know not where we are; lost among hundreds of tracks.  The same is true for the drive...white knuckled creating a path through the snow, forgetting to breath then pulling up to the store out of breath and wrecked from stress.  Now, day four of the storm, many tracks have been laid on the road; trusting the person before was competent in winter driving, do we follow their tracks?  Where will they lead: to the store or off the road?  Will we fish tale or will we remain in route to our destination?  Whether it be a physical destination or our journey with Christ, the path which we choose can make all the difference.  Robert Frost reminds us about the road less traveled for while paving our own way, making each mark in the snow, may be exhausting, but really, what victory comes without drive, without sacrifice?  We could leave our path to the persons who came before us or we can mark our path with God, knowing that with each step we do not walk alone.  Exhaustion can wear us down only if we let it or it can be our greatest resource forcing us to leave our minds and live in our hearts; listening, hearing, seeing and moving as love with God by our side.  Sure choosing an unmarked path is more challenging but who ever said that following our faith was easy?  Faith is our person connection with the Father, while it is meant to be shared, we must first understand and accept such faith as our own for if we know not what we have, it cannot be shared.   And so the snow has fallen, do we forge a new path or follow one already created by a stranger?

Without Sight

At what point do see without sight?  At what point do we know without questioning?  Innately we see, innately we know and yet often we choose to ignore.  Why?  Ignorance is bliss, true and that which we cannot see cannot hurt us; ask any 5 year old who heard a weird sound at night and threw the covers their head to protect them.  That in which we choose to partake decides for us our vision and, consequently, the knowledge we choose to believe.  Most of us probably fell off the bike the first time we attempted to ride as will most fall away from prayer, fall away from the drive to become closer to God riddling perseverance and ambition nominal contenders among the demigods of entitlement, self preservation and egotism, each rendering prevalent in our society.  The level of effort we put forth to become the best at anything should be comparative to that of the effort driving our relationship with God; driving our commitment to prayer; to recognizing love without sight and knowing hope without question.  The correlation of effort is proportional to output yet we selfishly rely upon the knowledge that God is eternal love and will forever call us His children hence fueling our lackadaisical procrastination toward prayer.  How many times have we said, “I’m too tired to pray”; “God knows...”; “I’ll take time tomorrow to pray”; and more excuses have been uttered.  Yes, God is there and will be there, but shouldn’t we?  Shouldn’t we be there with God, listening, learning, accepting that we may reciprocate His love, His hope in this, our, world?  Without prayer we still see but cannot comprehend.  Without prayer we still know but we do not understand.  It is through prayer that we come alive in the Father’s wisdom and gain the courage to act upon our gift of piety rendering conscious theories inferior to the truths innately inscribed upon our soul.  Acting in accordance with a world obsessed with self, let us become self absorbed...burdened not with becoming superior but rather dedicate to the idea of becoming whole.  We spend so much time preparing for Christmas, with choosing the most perfect present why not include self in the list of presents this year, only this present comes not with a price tag simply a promise.  A promise to set aside time each day to be with God; time spent in prayer growing close to the Father, seeing without sight; knowing without questioning.

Snowy Trek

A trek through the woods presents its own stillness but a trek through the snowy woods presents a purposeful stillness, a stillness offered as prayer:

A blanket of white covers the land; a blanket of white, God offers His hand

Take a moment for time lost in prayer; take a moment to see God is there

In this silence love His gift; in this silence let us drift

Into the arms of the Father filled with peace; into the arms of the Father anxiety we should release

For His love knows not bounds; His love it surrounds

Let us be still that we may feel; let us be still that we may heal

For the Father knows our heart; From us the Father will ever part

Here in this stillness let us find our breath; Here in this stillness we shall rest

The obstacles of the day drift from thought while the peace of Christ is intently sought

An opportunity arises, let us take a stand; be in this moment and take God’s very hand

A peace, a hope, a stillness, a love; a gentle reminder from the Father up above

New tracks through the snow and His love we will know

Our heart open to His voice; our hearts settled by choice

We choose to see, we choose to hear just as we choose to live not in fear

Rid we must the toxic thoughts of humankind; rid we must the hauntings of the mind

A new fallen snow, a gift that we may see; a new fallen snow that love we may be

In the silence of the heart we are called by name; in the silence of the heart we shall do the same

The Father’s name we shall call; the Father’s answer will settle all

The heart knows its home; though in our humanness we do roam

Yet with us the Father takes each step even in times when we have leapt

Leapt without purpose or thought; but leapt on the wings of faith which the Father so tenderly taught

Life in His hands brings a peace no measured; life in His hands makes life we can weather

So in this moment of stillness, increase in us a willingness

To make this place our home; to call this place our home

Father, into Your arms we climb, into You arms we fall; broken and all

In this newness of peace help us our anxieties to release

That this moment be spent with You; that this moment we know what to do

Offer you ourselves without reservation

Offer ourselves in this moment

Be the offering He has given to us...stillness and peace in this moment.

Amen.

An Illusionary Tale

An illusionary tale

Thinking that what we see, what we hear is, indeed, what we know thus creating an essence of who we are, who we strive to become.

An illusionary tale

A story contrived by others, force feeding negational truths, sequestering the mind in an attempt to isolate the heart.

An illusionary tale

Sights skewed by vision; interference impairing hearing; knowledge disoriented by lies.

An illusionary tale

Inscribed not in the heart but rather in mass produced texts claiming infinite wisdom calibrated by discrepancies of truth mistranslated by language.

An illusionary tale

Words spoken without meaning; texts written without wisdom; information transferred without prudence.

An illusionary tale

Life constructed within the confines of fabricated perfection as self proclaimed independent dictator.

An illusionary tale

A life purposed by vanity; morphing wants into needs and desires into can’t live without.

An illusionary tale

Predicated upon human desires and the abandonment of absolute truth.

An illusionary tale

A mark of the times, an isolation from the Father.

An illusionary tale

A tale of misdirection, a tale of deceptive aggression.

An illusionary tale

Referencing not truth rather allusions of that which never could be.

An illusionary tale

Contorting our perception of reality, controlling a sense of truth.

An illusionary tale

Written not inscribed, predicted upon human desire not divine understanding,

An illusionary tale

A tale in which we can unsubscribe, a tale which offers no assistance, a tale offering lies, a tale with no relevance.

An illusionary tale

The cause of our disillusionment.

An illusionary tale

A cautionary tale and cause for pause.  Is that which is before us truth or an illusionary tale?  Which sanctions our movements: the mind or the heart; hence is that which we participate and illusion or reality?

LENT

Letting go of that which we grip so tightly only to realize it is the reason for our distance… Exercising the heart, the soul that it may...
