Fair, what is fair anyway?
Fair; life's not fair, we play the hand we are deal. There are times we want ice cream so bad only to find that someone has put the carton back empty. Or, in this vast game of life, the promotion goes to the slacker in the next cubical who puts forth no effort, is constantly late and, quite honestly, who in his jeans and ripped t-shirt has no concept of dress causal. Yet, there he is making twice the salary with twice the amount of personal days. Fairness has nothing to do with life. Once we start to use the word fair, resentment, bitterness and attitude consume our existence and life, well, it sucks. Instead of being thankful for what we have, we dwell on what we don't have and compare them to the fantastic things others do have and seemingly flaunt in our faces. Life is about what we do with what we have that makes the difference. We may not have the hottest car or the coolest pair of kicks yet we have a means of transportation and warm feet. Life is about perspective, we can play a constant game of keeping up with the Jones or we can be thankful for the things we do possess. Once we let go of our ego and surrender to God, life takes on an entirely different meaning; life is enjoyable, life is placid, life is humbled. Awakened with gratitude, life no longer a dichotomy or a "have to" and "need to", now becomes a "want to" with a smile. Sure, nothing is perfect, there will be awkward times, there will be difficult struggles and there will be sadness; yet, it is what we do with each of these times that makes the difference. When we put on our God-goggles, our view is no longer distorted but jealousy, rational thought, or hatred; it is driven by love, inspired by faith and rests in diligence. Only we have the power to change our perspective, only we have the power to invite God into our lives, only we have the power to look at the glass as half full, only we have the power to change our lives. God will honor us, God will walk with us no matter the perspective chosen; yet life is more rewarding, more fulfilled with a God-goggle perspective and attitude. Gratefulness follows our footsteps while grace and humility lead the way. Life is about what we do with what we have and the difference is made.
