Surrender the very connotation is abhorred, detested, loathed by most in our society. By giving up or giving in we are deemed weak and therefore feeble; able to be tossed aside and completely ignored. But, to whom or what are we surrendering? Giving fears, pain, shortcomings, anxiety, joy, blessings, all that we have and all that we are to God only makes us stronger. For it is only when we toss our ego aside and admit that we need help do we actually begin to live. Our lives become peace and love when we surrender and begin to thrive in God's arms. How do we surrender; how do we give our lives to God? All that Christ sacrificed for us and we cannot disregard our ego that we may be guided by faith and wrapped in the Father’s love? We need to forgo that which we place higher than God; though nothing should be higher than our Father, the ego takes credit where credit is not due, it marks some options higher than others and creates a hierarchy of misconstrued understandings leading to the elevation of pride and narcissistic tendencies. We need to step away from such nonsense and look to the purpose of surrender, look to the purpose of Christ’s sacrifice and live with purpose not pride. It is in our surrender that we see clearly, that we understand fully the Father’s love and devotion for us. Love is the cornerstone of our relationship with God as He sets no conditions on His love and concern for our thoughts, desires and actions. If God loves us unconditionally and wants only the best for each of us, why do we find it difficulty to surrender to his love? Surrendering to anything, especially that which is deemed intangible or unable to be proven is irrational and therefore an unintelligent move as set forth by societal standards. While society often mocks or shuns us for this surrender, surrender reminds us of our need for humility. We know not everything, we understand not everything, we live only to the potential we set forth as imperative and substantial to our growth as human beings within a societal rendering of approved reactions. Yet faith tells us to surrender, it urges us to surrender for it stems forth from the Father’s love and, therefore, understands that which man creates, that which is driven by the ego only serves to deviate the course of love. Equipped with faith and humility, we have that which we need to surrender; to give to God without fear, without anxiety, without regret. Surrendering to the love of God is our heart’s natural calling, it is who we are. Pumped up by the ego, our clarity becomes skewed making for an opportunistic ego to swoop in and create havoc. Why not celebrate that which God loves most; us, our person? Created in the image and likeness of God, we possess Godly traits though not to the extent to which God possesses the same traits. Should we stop, genuinely look at ourselves, look into our souls, we will surely find God in our midst. It is in this discovery of God that we are able to let go of that which keeps us down, keeps us fighting for control of our lives, keeps us feeling like we are drowning in a sea of narcissistic egotism and a mindset of us verses them. Thinking we control our situations, we cleverly move bound by purposed calamity masquerading as controlled idealism. The illusion of control is precisely which creates this fear of surrender. We have no control, we have to ability to react to events and situations yet we cannot control any of it. So let's stop trying to put a round peg through a square hole for this only causes aggregation and stress. Let us honor who we are in Christ, honor who are meant to be in Christ, honor our Christ-like qualities as we surrender to be loved and guided by Christ. No longer a blow to our ego, we surrender to God's love that we may be free to live our lives of joy and peace ever strengthened by the hand of God. And so we give to God all that we are, all that we aspire to be for to be humbled is to be wrapped in the Father’s love and see the world for what it really is a blessing of the Father rendered in unconditional love. Surrender need not carry a negative connotation for to surrender to the Father is to be humbled by His love, to accept His words as truth and to solidify a heart, a soul wrapped in unconditional love. Will you surrender to God?
