We know cards and trees, decos and lights, cookies and garland, presents and carols but do we know the most important part of Christmas? Christ is our Christmas. Christ in our heart, in our mind, the reason for our movement, the reason for our breath. The world turned on its side; not knowing which way is up makes us believe Christmas is ruined, makes us believe it simply won’t come. The magic of Christmas is not in the presents we receive nor in the amount we spend. The magic of Christmas is in our hearts, it is about being love without reservation, being love without condition. Connections are forever: they withstand distance, withstand hardships, withstand hurt, withstand death thus it is our connections with and to God and others that we need to celebrate this Christmas. The world is strained, the world is flawed but Christmas is love and our cause for celebration this year. Love in word, love in deed, love in sacrifice, love in connections both spoken and unspoken. We are a people of love though we are divided among anger, hatred, and entitlement, enabling our identity to be split among desire and privilege. Lines blurred we tend to follow the crowd, especially when it is so loud. The heart seeks refuge in love, in the Father, in Christmas. Let us step back and see that everyone is entitled to love. Love our purpose this season, be it our theme, be it our gift gently wrapped in a hug, in a text, in a phone call. Love in Christmas cards, in a homemade gift, in a feel good Christmas movie. Love, this Christmas, like no Christmas’ before because love it our reason for breath, for movement, for life. Once love becomes our being then love will become our sight and what better sites of Christmas than that of love? We know cards and trees, decos and lights, cookies and garland, presents and carols but do we know the most important part of Christmas? Have we brought Christ into our hearts that we may bring Christ into Christmas?
