The Charge
Waves crash along the shore, the sky light up as though it were morning yet night has fallen; the cracking of thunder shakes the very foundation of the chosen shelter by which to hide. Crash after crash the sky illuminated with electrified bolts, bolts which amaze yet frighten for the power of each bolt unlikely matched by the power of man. Waves crash along the shore and bring with it shells, once whole, now shattered into pieces from its violent arrival upon shore. Streak after bolt, after sheet, after rocket followed by bead, lightning fills the sky making it easy to see through the dark night even if but for a moment. Moment after moment is bright and moment after moment brings about clarity, clarity of the heart for, in this moment, the mind is mesmerized by the storm giving way to the heart. In this moment, a pray remembered, a pray for light in the darkness, a beacon to find once again find the path of peace. "Shed a little light, Oh Lord, just a little light, Oh Lord", a prayer, an infamous song by James Taylor; our prayer, our song humbly spoken, humbly sung that we may see more that this world offers. God's offering are limited only by our acceptance, only by our egotistical struggles, only by our stubbornness and acceptance of the mind. She'd a little light, Oh Lord...what do we need to see? Can we see the power of our connection, can we see our struggles are the struggles of others, too? The light, Oh Lord, will it help us to see that intimately we are one, intimately we differ not, that our hearts beat in unison with Your heart? Each bolt of light which strikes the earth gives us reason to stop, gives us reason to watch, to see that which surrounds, that which inhibits us from being this light for others. Coming from the clouds, a streak of light electrifies the sky, as if setting the world on fire. Though shelter we seek, it is in this moment, we discover that shelter our escape, our excuse to retreat from the moment and solely listen to the mind frantically seeking shelter from the storm. Shelter sought, shelter gained yet the heart calls, seeking a charge from God; in this moment, the entire sky illuminated. Instinctively the mind minimizes the experience with its gained knowledge of intracloud Lightning but the heart speaks louder, so loudly that the mind no longer a contender of conversation. Sheet after sheet, the lightning brightens the sky illuminating, too, the soul, electrifying a share pulse with our Creator. One, together; together we are one in the Lord charged with a purpose, charged with love. As the ionized air carries an electrical current between two differing charged areas, thus our heart carries its own electrical current stimulating the soul and electrifying our purpose that we may become driven enough to see that which lies before us, a task charged by God's pulse residing within our being. Just as different forces present themselves and identified by the eye as differing types of lightning, our heart speaks to us the truth of our reality, our sameness in Christ yet our diversity as humans. Though we may not think, we may not act, we may not speak, nor may we look similar to each other, we are all one in Christ, one in love, one with an intimate connection grounded in God yet experienced in faith. We differ not in our similarities only in our rationalities, how we express that which we know versus that which w think we know. Similarly, we know Christ, we hear His voice, we see His works yet how do we choose to interpret such experiences as interpersonal testaments of faith or rational interpretations predicted by science unspoken to the soul. The ladder will eventually render the soul petrified leaving only the mind the master of our being; life in this realm is cold, it always seeks shelter yet only ever finds a shack which can withstand only partial storms. However, the testaments of faith electrify the soul so much so that we find ourselves dancing in the storm, celebrating it majestic light that we may discover there is no darkness, only light. Shed a little light, Oh Lord...the light has been shed, we now charged, charged with purpose, charged with love, charged with recognizing and initiating connections of the heart with those who have lost their way, those who have sought shelter in dilapidated construction. We are one, Oh Lord, one in Your life, one in Your peace, one in Your breath...charge us with Your love that we may be electrified and illuminate the world when it is darkened by hatred, by apathy, by thoughts of the mind. Electrified we are, may this pulse become our purpose and love our charged source that we may find the connections lost among the worldly storms of violence, discrimination, hatred and complacency. You are our surge, Oh Lord, protection from You we need not and electrified by Your love we are strengthened by Your wisdom. No longer will we wander in the darkness for we are repurposed, charged, electrified and our heart the beacon shedding light upon our world. Shed a little light, Oh Lord, just a little light, Oh Lord and we will see love has a purpose, we have a purpose, charge our souls and together we will recharge the world.
